Tragedy for the Crusty Demons tour in Australia

According to a report in Australia's Herald Sun newspaper, the driver of the big rig carrying the stage, sound equipment, 15 motorcycles, and related equipment for the Crusty Demons of Dirt tour was killed instantly early Sunday morning when he went off the road through guardrail in Tasmania. The equipment on the truck, estimated to be worth $2 million (Australian) was destroyed in the crash.

"Driver Matt Cahir, 31, of Dunnstown, near Ballarat, died instantly when his B-Double sliced through a guardrail and burst into flames near Devonport," wrote the paper. "The smash happened about 5.15am on a notorious section of the Bass Highway at the Don River Bridge. The truck was carrying 15 motorbikes, petrol, oil, rubber mats and a sound system worth $2 million from a show in Launceston the night before."

"Tour promoter Michael Porra said Mr Cahir left Launceston at 4 a.m. yesterday. 'This is a sad day,' he said. 'Riders and crew are shocked and staggered.'

"Insp Lauchland Avery said the truck had overturned on a sweeping downhill left-hand bend just before the bridge."
